Trauma Therapy in Hershey

Are You Tired Of Feeling Trapped Because Of Painful Moments In Your Past?

Has it been challenging to move forward from an experience that deeply affected you?

Do you feel disconnected from yourself and others, unable to pursue and nurture the relationships and dreams that you desire?

Are flashbacks, or this persistent fear that something bad is going to happen, keeping you from living life to your fullest potential?

Perhaps you feel so overwhelmed by past or present circumstances that you can’t figure out how to move forward and achieve your goals. Maybe you’ve noticed that you’re constantly combative with everyone or that you run away from your problems when times get hard.

When you think about the adverse experiences that you’ve been through, you might find it hard not to blame yourself for the way certain things played out—even if the situation at hand was out of your control. This can leave you feeling stuck in a cycle of sadness, anger, and regret that can be tough to pull yourself out of on your own.

For the first time, you may be wondering if it would be beneficial to seek treatment and find support to help guide you through your trauma. Whether you’re suffering from complex trauma or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Tice Counseling & Wellness would be honored to walk with you on your journey of healing and restoration.

Many Of Us Feel Disconnected Because Of Our Trauma

We all go through countless journeys, battles, and circumstances as we live our lives. Some of which we will brush past, while others will deeply impact us—ultimately shaping our behavior, outlook, and overall perspective. However, the specific experiences that lead to trauma can look different for everyone.

As children, many of us didn’t receive the love and acceptance we needed from our parents or family, and this can lead to complex or developmental trauma that affects our relationships today. Many of us also experience acute traumas like car accidents, medical diagnoses, or natural disasters, all of which can leave us vulnerable and scared and worried that the past will repeat itself. If we experienced a significant loss, that can significantly shift our sense of identity and lead to relational or existential trauma.

As life goes on, unaddressed trauma can cause us to feel disconnected from ourselves and the world around us. We might have a hard time pursuing the goals, dreams, and relationships that we desire the most.

The Longer Trauma Goes Unaddressed, The More It Weighs Us Down

There’s a common misconception that time heals all wounds, but this isn’t always the case. No matter what you’re trying to overcome, trauma goes deeper than just feeling stuck or held back. It’s a condition that can stay stored in your body long after the actual event that brought it on has passed.

When traumatic experiences aren’t processed in a healthy way, symptoms can show up in many ways, such as physical tension, emotional reactivity, or a constant sense of feeling “on edge.” Over time,  the weight of your trauma doesn’t just impact your mind, but also your physical wellbeing, productivity, and ability to feel present with the people you care about.

You don’t have to bear the heaviness of your trauma alone. With therapy at Tice Counseling & Wellness, you can find the deep healing that you’ve been searching for as you learn to leave your trauma behind and step into a life of freedom and confidence.

Tice Counseling & Wellness Offers Specialized Care To Help You Heal From Trauma

Our practice understands that healing from  trauma  doesn’t mean that you’re just brushing it off and forgetting that it ever happened. Instead, we want to help you integrate the experience into your life in a healthy way, allowing you to remember what happened without reliving it. With our therapy services here at Tice Counseling & Wellness, we strive to provide around-the-clock support to pull you out of merely surviving from your trauma, leading you to a life that feels more grounded, present, and fulfilling.

Our therapists know that there isn’t a universal method for healing from trauma. Everyone has their own unique challenges, which is why we use a variety of evidence-based methods in our approach to trauma therapy.

What To Expect In Trauma Therapy Sessions

Whether you’re suffering from complex, relational, existential, or childhood trauma, our therapy process is individualized to focus on your recovery while meeting you wherever you find yourself in your healing journey.

We’ll begin with an intake so that you and your trauma therapist can get to know each other by discussing what brought you to therapy, as well as the goals you would like to achieve. Your counselor will spend this time understanding your “window of tolerance,” ensuring that your trauma treatment plan moves at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

With each session, our team is here to support you in processing what you’ve been through while helping your mind and body feel safe again. Your therapist will create a secure space for you to explore your trauma through a wide range of evidence-based approaches, some of which are listed below:

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) helps you address the unhelpful beliefs and thought patterns that often linger after a traumatic experience so that you can reframe the story you’ve been telling yourself about your trauma.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy uses tapping and eye movements to help you properly store the memories that are associated with your trauma, allowing you to recall what happened without feeling emotionally overwhelmed.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy teaches self-awareness by helping you connect with the different “parts” of yourself so that you can resolve internal conflicts that hold you back from true healing.

Somatic Therapy gives you a chance to release physical tension and pent-up stress from your nervous system so that your body can let go of PTSD symptoms and gain lasting relief.

Ultimately, we will work together to find approaches that work best for who you are and what you’re going through. Our team offers trauma therapy both in-person and online to make the counseling process feel as safe and convenient as possible. We’re here to help you transition from a state of survival to a state of peace.

Common Questions About Trauma Therapy….

Will I have to rely on therapy forever?

You will have all of the tools at your disposal to make a guided decision as to how long you would like to participate in trauma therapy. Here at Tice Counseling & Wellness, we believe that each person should be their own individual expert on themselves. Our goal is to strengthen your coping skills enough so that you can successfully ground yourself when times feel overwhelming. This way, you’ll be able to transition out of therapy when you’re ready, but there is also no harm in remaining in therapy long-term.

Will talking about my challenges with trauma make me feel worse?

Sometimes, especially when first opening up about your trauma, discussing your pain can be uncomfortable. But, just as healing a physical wound often stings and hurts in the beginning, sometimes healing an emotional wound means working through difficult emotions. As counselors, it’s our job to develop a “window of tolerance” with you  so that we can minimize discomfort as much as possible while achieving real results.

What if others judge me or see me differently for seeking trauma therapy?

While being judged is a real concern when you’re trying to be vulnerable and heal from your trauma in therapy, luckily, the stigma surrounding counseling is lessening in our culture as time goes on. More people are seeking support than ever before and feeling a renewed sense of peace and joy because of it. Nonetheless, therapy is always a confidential process, and you will ultimately get the chance to decide who you want to discuss your healing journey with.
